Chitthi

The story opens up at Srirangam, one of the most beautiful locations situated on the banks of River Cauvery. Ramu (Shiva Kumar) and Krishna (Subaleka Sudhakar) are very close pals. Ramu lives alone with his little daughter Kaveri (Baby Hemalatha). One day while performing rituals for his wife’s death anniversary, Ramu finds a woman; who is later identified as Sharadha (Radikaa).

She starts a new life with Ramu and his daughter Kaveri. Later they move on to Chennai to start a garments manufacturing unit and it gets great acclaim with the help of Prabavathi (Yuvarani). As days pass by, Prabavathi eventually falls in love with Ramu. But he declines her proposal as he is already married to Sharadha. A dejected Prabavathi plans to take revenge on Ramu and as a first step to her plan she marries Ramu’s best friend Krishna with the help of her uncle Velumani (Vasu Vikram). After few years, Ramu and Krishna decide to exchange their babies in order that their friendship will be prolonged for yet another life time through the lives of their children. The kids grow up, and still the revenge between the families continues. 

Sharadha’s past life which was always under cover comes to limelight through Yogi (Ajay Ratnam). Sharadha who hails from a rich family was an IAS. She had a twin sister; Shakthi (also played by Radikaa) was an IPS. Their father, Easwara Pandian (Ravikumar), faces some problem due to his daughter Sharadha and he arranges for her to be shot dead. Shakthi, who comes to know about this, poses as Sharadha and is shot dead. Sharadha escapes from there and lands at Srirangam where she is saved by Ramu and Kaveri. What happens when the children come to know the truth forms the rest of the story.

Chitti was a successful hit among all classes of audiences. This serial which gave a new path to many of the artistes in the small screen, also gave a break to the music director (Dhina) and playback singer (Nithyasree Mahadevan) because of its title song. This serial also holds the pride of having the best TRP ratings ever and ran for a period of about 488 episodes.
