She is a modest woman in her late fifties and is the mother of two children, Kalaiarasi, a teenage girl and Udhay, a lawyer. Her husband is none other than the famous High Court judge, Karthikeyan. Janse is a look alike of Lakshmi. It is this resemblance that surprised Karthikeyan when he happens to meet Lakshmi. But he hides this from Janse.
Janse, meanwhile is on a hunt for criminals in each city she is posted at. She takes on the mafia, Police and even petty pimps. One of her cases brings her near to Lakshmi. Ganga, a transsexual sex worker, kidnaps Lakshmi’s youngest sister. The girl is taken to Mumbai, to be involved in the flesh trade at Ganga’s brothel. Janse, who is posted in Mumbai, takes charge. This case brings Lakshmi and Janse face to face. Janse is shocked to see her replica.
A flashback brings the truth out. Lakshmi is indeed Janse’s daughter but an illegitimate one at that. She is the result of an illicit affair Janse had when she is a young teenage girl in Sri Lanka. When Lakshmi is born Janse’s mother had packed the newborn baby and given for adoption fearing the dark impact it would have on Janse’s future. Mother and daughter had then fled the country and sought a new life in India.
Janse from then onwards had studied hard, to reach a high position in society and had married Karthikeyan. But alas now with Lakshmi’s arrival the family pride is at peril. Lakshmi is a reminder of Janse’s foolish mistake, which she had thought is erased from her life. Janse now refuses to acknowledge Lakshmi’s presence.
Nevertheless, she remains true to her job and saves Lakshmi’s sister from Ganga. She further, puts Ganga behind bars. This brews anger in Ganga’s mind and she in turn resolves to take revenge on Janse’s family. Ganga urges, Kannan her younger brother to seduce Kalai and ruin her life. Kalai seeing Kannan, a handsome young man falls in love with him.
Meanwhile in Janse’s family one by one each member gets to know about Lakshmi’s existence and their mother’s stark past. Conflict arises in the Janse household and she begins to blame Lakshmi for everything. In the disturbances Kalai marries Kannan and enters Ganga’s den.
Lakshmi approaches her mother realizing the extent of uproar her arrival had created and tries to help Janse but the latter refuses to accept Lakshmi within her eyesight. Janse also faces problems from a socially corrupt man named Nallathambi, who is the cause behind Thamarai’s doom. GJ befriends Janse in the midst of all confusions and begins to act as her spy for a huge lump of cash as payment. He helps Janse catch a few criminals. Kalai on the other hand begins to experience torture in Kannan’s household. Lakshmi, again in many ways tries to bring the family together despite Janse’s stubbornness.
Janse becomes cornered with more and more oppositions from the villains, who are bent on corrupting the society. Janse passes each of her day fighting both domestic squabbles and professional perils. Eventually, the veil forces kill Karthikeyan and the blame is unexpectedly put on Janse’s head. It is then Janse realizes that there is a strong force of enemies working against her and it is not only Nallathambi but an even more powerful man named Vishwanathan is her strongest enemy.
When Janse sees Vishwanathan’s photo another shock awaits her. This Vishwanathan, is none other than, her ex-lover who had cheated on her and made her pregnant with Lakshmi at a young age. Vishwanathan is now a powerful magnate, heading a chain of hospitals.
