Viswanatha Raju hailed from a small hamlet in Andhra Pradesh and migrated to Hyderabad. He entered into the granites business and established a vast empire. Viswanatha Raju and his wife Rajeswari were blessed with two sons and a daughter. His sons Madhava Raju and Kalyan Raju were assisting him in his business and his daughter Mahalakshmi is the total in charge of their house Mahalakshmi Nivasam.

Srinivasa Raju was a staff of Viswanatha Raju’s company in his early days. Viswanatha Raju was very impressed at his talent and brilliance and so he went to the extent of giving his daughter Mahalakshmi in marriage to Srinivasa Raju. Though Rajeswari was against this she was unable to protest against her husband and remained a mute spectator having hatred towards Srinivasa Raju within her heart.

Viswanatha Raju comes to know through his son in law that his elder son Madhava Raju is indulging in illegal activities against his family ethics, so he punished him and threw out Madhava Raju from Mahalakshmi Nivasam.

After Viswanatha Raju’s demise Srinivasa Raju runs the company in tune with his father in law’s wish. Kalyan Raju the second son of Viswanatha Raju is quiet opposite to his elder brother and remains single even at the age of forty. Kalyan Raju is very close to his brother in law Srinivasa Raju and assists him in everything.

Mahalakshmi and Srinivasa Raju are blessed with four children of whom twenty six year old Renuka is the eldest. Renuka assists her father in the granite trade. Renuka is in love with Suresh who is the son of Madhava Rao and wishes to marry him.

Madhava Raju’s elder daughter Swetha gets married and the women of Mahalakshmi Nivasam attend the wedding. During the wedding Swetha is blackmailed by her ex lover and Mahalakshmi manages to deftly get rid of him without the knowledge of anyone. Renuka request her father to attend the wedding. Madhava Raju insults Srinivasa Raju at the wedding hall so Mahalakshmi was forced to leave the hall with her husband.

Now Srinivasa Raju’s health deteriorates and he decides to conduct Renuka’s wedding as early as possible and starts looking out for a suitable groom to his daughter. In the meantime Renuka is forced to marry Suresh as he threatens to kill himself if she does not marry him.

In a fret of anger Srinivasa Raju states that she would not have dared to act like this, if she had really been his daughter and Rajeswari uses the situation to reveal that Renuka is an orphan. Srinivasa Raju regrets for having blurted out the guarded secret about their beloved daughter. This regret worsens his health and he almost falls in to a state of coma.

In such a situation it comes to light that Srinivasa Raju has another wife. Even before Mahalakshmi recovers from this shock there is a big downfall in the business making them almost insolvent. Mahalakshmi decides to dispose off one of their prime properties to stabilize their business but learns that the property is registered in the name of Srinivasa Raju’s other wife who agrees to sell the property on one condition.
